Short answer - no, especially after this Telegraph article.
It's refreshing to hear that the board will give Maresca at least two full seasons before reviewing his future at the club - unless of course, something drastic happens during that time.
In the position the club are in at the moment, and more importantly the style of management and overall outlook that the ownership are looking to apply - Enzo Maresca is our best possible head coach option for the future.
A win this Friday against Manchester United gives Chelsea restored hope of reaching the Champions League, while a Conference League victory would hand us a first piece of silverware in four years, a first for Maresca in his first season at the club, and should hopefully cool parts of the fanbase who are still skeptical about him.
Maresca could be in the job for the next two, three, even five years. For a head coach to last that long in this modern era of the club is unheard of, but this new ownership has the potential to shake things up and offer a different style.
Plus, the thing I have cried out for as a fan is a settled head coach position. Teams shouldn't change coaches every eighteen months. The best coaches in world football are allowed to have off-periods, or miss out on trophies - as long as they fight and find ways to bounce back. Maresca has shown that this year, and will only improve as time goes on - to judge him based solely on his first season in the English top flight is silly.
Whats more, this Premier League season has been incredibly competitive - one of the most competitive in years. Some might see a fifth place finish and frown, while I would be more than happy with fifth, a Conference League title, and an increase in points gained from last year. That is improvement.
Maresca has things to tweak and change with this squad - as every top coach does in order to stay competitive and relevant. A smart summer window would help massively, but more outgoings are needed in order to craft a set squad for next season and onwards.
I also think Maresca has the tactical know-how to compete at the top level, and similarly to our young squad, he is learning as time goes on. I'm sure we have yet to see the best from our head coach.
We are starting to build a team around Enzo Maresca, and it would be detrimental if we started from scratch once again.
